My earliest memories are of a long convalescence in a hospital. One of the doctors who had operated on me for a ruptured appendix told my mother there was no medical reason I was alive. Because I continue to live with some medical problems, I never can forget that the most fundamental goal is to keep on moving like the girl shown above. I live each day knowing it is a gift, not just something that happens to be.
