Remote Sensing

Geography courses may often be classified into one of three categories: regional courses, topical courses, and methods courses. "Remote Sensing"--a course taught at Slippery Rock University under the number G&ES 410--is an example of a methods course. As the University catalog describes the course it is obvious that the focus is on a methodology or technique: "Covers the electromagnetic and thermal properties of earth objects, principles and operations of sensors, and the practical applications of remote sensing."

In remote sensing information about the earth's surface is frequently obtained from sensors that have been placed on earth satellites, as is the case in the view seen above of the San Francisco area.
