The Asian Studies Development Program's Association of Regional Centers (ASDP-ARC) and Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania have been awarded a Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad Program grant that will provide funding for 12 professors chosen from colleges and universities which have been designated as Regional Centers of the ASDP to participate in a field seminar held in Malaysia and Singapore from June 21st through July 28 th of 2006.

During their stay in Malaysia and Singapore, the participants in the project will receive approximately 30 formal presentations on politics, religion, economics, multi-culturalism, and education by local experts in Malaysia and Singapore.   The group will also visit government offices, universities, schools, political parties, historic sites, museums, temples, mosques, and other cultural sites. In Malaysia the participants will visits states in both East and west Malaysia as well as the state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo.

The primary purpose of this program is to give American educators the opportunity to learn from local experts and from direct experience about Malaysia and Singapore and to develop strategies for teaching what they have learned to their students.
