Derrick's Homepage : College Writing 2 Homepage : Presentations Back to the English Department Homepage

You will present your topic to the class on one of the last two classes--that is, during the last week of class and when we meet during Finals Week.

Requirements:

  1. There are three things to accomplish here while you present:
    1. Present your point;
    2. Give clear illustrations to demonstrate your point;
    3. Grab your audience as you present and demonstrate your point.
  2. The presentation is to be at most 10 minutes, and at the least 7:00.
  3. You may show film clips, but they may be no more than 2:00 long in all.
  4. You may use Powerpoint, but you may NOT use it to present a text outline of your talk. You may use it for images or charts or other exhibits.
  5. There will be questions for you from the class following your talk.

Grading:

The presentation is worth 10 points of your final grade. You will receive a sheet to grade your classmates on each of the three points given above "to accomplish." I will collect these as evidence for your grade.

Here are the questions which will be on student comment sheets:

  1. Did the presenter give a clear articulation of a point?  This does not ask whether the person has a topic, but whether he or she clarifies what we should learn about the topic which is useful to us.
  2. Did the presenter give examples to illustrate the point clearly?
  3. Were you captured by the presentation?
  4. Further pertinent comments?
