Derrick's Homepage : Latin 1 & 2 Homepage / Latin 3+ Homepage Back to the English Department Homepage

There are a variety of Latin learning sites out there. I collect here those which I think are the best. These also contain links to further sites if you wish to explore. Don't just surf, though: ea utere!

Help with Learning Grammar!

Armstrong's Fill Drills. Scroll down. These drills are, sine dubio, the best set of drills for learning Latin on the internet, though they (unfortunately) do not cover every chapter. If you conscientiously and regularly work through these drills and the self-teaching exercises in the back of Wheelock you will learn a great deal. This page also has further links at the bottom.
Latin Learning Materials at St. Louis University. This has a wide variety of learning tools, including vocabulary lists to complement Wheelock and a neat set of .pdf files with explanations and exercises to help with Latin grammar, vocabulary, and some texts.
The Classical Latin Instruction Project is a neat project to help with pronunication of Latin (and Greek)--listen to it!
The Official Wheelock's Latin Series website contains material and links.
Here are some vocabulary games.
If none of this is enough, you might check out the resources collected here and here.

Texts and other Resources

The Perseus Digital Library collects an enormous amount of material (much reaches far beyond classics). Aside from full texts of much Latin literature, it also includes a dictionary (an on-line version of Lewis and Short), a morphology tool (to look up any form of any word), Allen and Greenough's Latin Grammar, and Mahoney's Overview of Latin Syntax. Sometimes you need to be patient with this site.
Here is a good site on Catullus.
Here is a good page on Cicero.
Here is a searchable version of the Vulgate, the Latin Bible.
The Biblioteca Augustana collects a wide variety of Latin texts, classical and medieval.
The Classics Page has a wide variety of texts as well, both classical and medieval.
If you want to look for books to buy in or about Latin, the Latinteach bookstore is a great place to start. Here is the site's homepage, which has lots of links to resources for teachers and students.
And for some fun, here how to search the Latin Web, and the Vicipædia.
