Basics of Scanning (using the scanners in the IT lab)

1. Start the scanning software (HP PrecisionScan Pro) Precision.gif (24169 bytes)
2. With your picture on the scanner glass, preview the picture. The lamp and motor should come on. The image should appear on-screen. preview.gif (11553 bytes)
3. Draw a marquis around the area of interest. Next use CTRL C to copy to the clipboard. This will, probably, result in a rescan of the image (complete with lit lamp and whirring motor). crop.gif (30271 bytes)

4. Save
the
image

(usually in jpg format for color photos, usually in gif format for greyscale images).

Use either

4a. Open Photoshop and paste the image into it. Flatten. Resize (under Image/size) and retouch as appropriate. Save. photoscan.gif (30710 bytes)
